Johnty (b. 1996) is an artist whose work centres on the quiet beauty of everyday life in Cornwall. Before relocating there, he studied and later taught at the London Fine Art Studios Atelier, where he was fortunate to receive two scholarships from the De Lazslo Foundation. In 2025, he was awarded the Winsor & Newton Young Artist Award at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and continues to exhibit across the country.

Now settled in Falmouth, Cornwall, Johnty draws inspiration from the natural world, the gentle rhythms of Cornish life, and the overlooked charm of ordinary objects.

If art requires a purpose, Johnty’s is simple and perhaps even selfish. In a world that feels increasingly overstimulating, painting allows him to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the quiet beauty in ordinary things, both natural and handmade. This might mean feeling a surge of excitement as the seasons shift and reveal new subjects, or noticing a beautiful bowl in a charity shop. The act of paying attention enriches his daily life and nurtures a positive mindset. If his work helps others pause, appreciate, or find a moment of beauty in the mundane, then that is simply a welcome bonus.

Artistically, he is influenced by the atmosphere and sensitivity of the Impressionists, as well as the Newlyn School- particularly the work of Stanhope Forbes and Laura Knight. Much of his work is painted from life, spanning plein air landscapes and still lifes. He is fascinated by the ever-changing quality of light and how it interacts with the world around us. This constant shift invites a responsive, intuitive approach, bringing a sense of immediacy and freshness to his paintings.

Johnty is deeply committed to the craft of oil painting, approaching it with a genuine obsession that drives him to keep learning, experimenting, and refining his practice. He is endlessly fascinated by how artists throughout history- and those working today-use paint, surface, and technique to express themselves. For Johnty, oil painting is not just a medium but a lifelong study and an ever-evolving craft that continues to challenge, inspire, and excite him

He also offers private art tuition and continues to teach workshops.
